There are few cities we love more than London, so when we got the chance to play at Annarkarli and Christopher’s wedding in One Whitehall Place, all of us at JukeBox HQ were ecstatic. After arriving at the elegant venue, which once was a residence for all Scottish kings, the first thing we noticed was the view from the windows; looking out from the left side of the function room, you are treated to a commanding view of the Thames, as well as a spectacular view of both the London Eye and the Shard. What makes this venue truly special is the blend of historical character and stunning location, both of which were not lost on us during the evening.
For the couple’s first dance, we were once again given the privilege of playing the song of their choice live at the beginning of the night. The chosen number was ‘Dakota’ by Stereophonics, a rather lively song, so as requested we gave the first few sections a much more atmospheric and romantic touch. It didn’t last long, however, as before the second verse we were in full party mode, and everyone charged the dance floor to celebrate with the newlyweds.

As is our custom, once we start…we don’t stop! As soon as the first dance ended we were straight into the folky world of ‘Ho Hey’ by the Lumineers, which had every foot stomping. After a rousing start to the evening it wasn’t long before we headed into our disco/dance medley, which as rumour has it, once started, makes standing still impossible! After the medley, we decided it was time for a bit of audience participation, so we managed to get the entire room serenading the beautiful bride Anna with ‘She’s so lovely’ by Scouting for Girls, which just about brought us to the end of set one.
Set two kicked off with our own rendition of the smooth classic ‘All night long’ by Lionel Richie, the perfect song to let people know the night has only just begun. As it was the last set of the evening, it was time the band brought out the big guns, and by big guns, I mean modern bangers! Those bangers included Uptown Funk, Crazy in Love, Shake it Off, Shut Up and Dance, Shape of You, and many more. During the onslaught of pop synths and fat bass lines, there was one song that was requested by the bride and groom; ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ by Coldplay. The entire band had a blast playing this song, and as soon as it was over we knew it would have to be added to our set list for future events. As the night drew on, it sadly brought us to the last song, which was ‘Yellow’, another Coldplay classic, and ended the evening with everyone singing along arm in arm.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr and Mrs Martin for having us at their wonderful wedding, and to wish them the happiest future together.
